We've had a bit of rain here . . .

Our river this evening.  It's been higher - over these rocks that I normally stand on to get the view (not today though!!)  It was probably over them in the night as it's been across the bottom lane and left a tidemark.  Our lane is dry at the bottom - yesterday the bend at the bottom of the hill had about a foot of water over it which hadn't been able to get away quick enough.  It did rain a wee bit, and then a wee bit more overnight!

This was the river a month ago, taken from the boulders I couldn't stand on today.  This was after about a month of raining most days, but not heavily all at once.

I don't seem to have one taken when the river was at its lowest.  Or rather, I think I did, but some got lost when I was transferring them to the external hard drive.

  2. It's a beautiful river, and is never the same for more than a couple of hours together - especially when it's been raining hard. It will rise and drop very quickly. We have friends who live in the Mill on the river and they have been there when the flooding was so bad it was within an inch of their front door - that is one floor UP on the mill because of the river. They were terrified the building would be swept away.

    1. Lucky indeed - it is lovely to walk beside it, hear it "talking" though when it gets REALLY high, when you are walking along the lane beside it, the river level is the same height as your feet (with a low bank inbetween). A little scarey . . .

  4. Wow, what a lovely river. We ended up getting rain at the beginning of the week, and from the looks of the forecast more is heading our way. Along with very cool temperatures. Time to get the garden in and the flowers emptied out.

    God bless.
