A Day for Doing Nothing

I remade the guest room bed yesterday and neatly laid a woollen blanket across the end.  Next time I came up I found this . . .

This morning I am feeling grim from my jab - I was awake 3 hours in the night, had Lulu wedged in my back purring like a grampus, knowing I needed Looking After.  Alfie came in at 1.30 and when I put my hand out to stroke him, promptly gave me a good scramming.  I was NOT amused by that.  I am very glad I did the baking on Tuesday.

Everything I've damaged or over-used in recent months is aching (thank you Shingles Jab), especially my poorly toe, and my back from shifting stuff at the weekend, and I have a headache.  I have taken Panadol and am about to retreat to the sofa.

I watched more Youtube history last night - one to avoid is The Kingdom of Brychiniog, where the Englishman who made it has not a CLUE how to pronounce ANY Welsh words and I wanted to hurl a book at the telly if he said DIFFED (instead of Dyfed with the y like "uh" thus Duh-ved).  Then there was Penn ee Fan, and BRECinog.  Oh and CerEDigon!  He clearly couldn't read and missed out every "i" and put the stress on the wrong part of the word. You don't want to hear him murdering "Hywel Dda" either . . .  I shall stick to the Cambrian Chronicles ones which are excellent.

I went through one of the coffers yesterday to try and put single duvets away and found two pairs of vintage 1980s Laura Ashley curtains which won't fit any windows here.  I'm going to put them on Fleabay when I'm feeling better, but if anyone is into vintage Laura Ashley here they are.  The brown print ones are 82" x44" each, and the bigger yellow ones once went across our kitchen bay window at Ynyswen.

Circa 1983.

A similar age.

  1. Sorry to hear the Shingles jab has had some uncomfortable side effects. I am not looking forward to my Covid and Flu jabs. The design on the second pair of curtains looks very 1950's. Perhaps Laura was thinking about 'curtains I have known in the past' when she designed the fabric!

    1. It could have been worse. For some reason, despite my bad asthma, I am not considered to be eligible for Covid jabs now. The Flu one I have every year and haven't had any noticeable side effects. Having been VERY ill with flu bac in the 70s, I daren't risk having it again as I age. Yes, the curtains do have a 50s look don't they.

  2. I hope you recover soon from the side effects of the Shingles jab - I don't remember having any ill effects from mine thankfully!!

    1. Apart from the sore back, I'm better today thank you. Better than having Shingles anyway.

  3. I sympathize with your Shingles jab discomfort. I had mine several years ago and remember thinking that if actual Shingles was anything like the jab then I was so grateful to have have been innoculated.

    1. It could have been worse - just 24 hours of discomfort. I know a friend was very poorly with Shingles, so best to be avoided.

  4. I don't think I have heard of anyone who has not been poorly after the shingles vaccine. I hope you will be better soon. I have my flu shot end of the month.
I don't know which is worst, continuity announcers and narrators who cannot pronounce Welsh place names, or those who simply cannot be bothered to try.

    1. The first one was ok - I didn't know I'd had it. At least it's done and dusted now.

It's really annoying when people don't even make the effort to find out how a Welsh word is pronounced.

  5. I don't qualify yet for a shingles jab but OH does, he's not looking forward to it. Do hope you feel better soon. Those Laura Ashley curtains are very of their time aren't they. Miss Sheva cat was very appreciative of the heating being turned on last night, she lay along the back of the chair right by the radiator. Food shop done and managed to get some YS bargains including 4 portions of duck for £3.96. Take care of yourself. Xx

    1. Tell him the first one he'll probably not notice. Feeling better today and going to do a bit more in the garden and get the tomato plants on the muck heap. Cats do appreciate the warmth - my bed normally as two or three on in the night - and one always sleeps just where you want to put your feet! Well done with your bargains. I have either beef an tomato curry (leftovers from two nights ago) or Something With Mince for tea tonight. May actually do a stew which I can have for lunches too, as a substantial soup.

  6. Miserable about the jab but sofa and telly is just the ticket. As a Suffolk girl I share your dismay at mangled place names. It should be easy enough these days to google the correct pronunciation. Be still my beating heart with those fabrics and the one on the bed, (Morris?).

    1. Well, for once I didn't feel guilty at sitting down. Yes, it's a William Morris (Strawberry Thief) duvet cover on the bed. The girls bought it for me for Christmas one year. I have a whole STASH of WM fabrics for the Heirloom quilt I am going to start on once two current WIP quilts finished. The girls bought the fabrics for me too and what a lovely time I had in Calico Kate's in Lampeter chosing it. I may just give myself a day out there again. I managed to find a navy and red sprig print at the right price on Fleabay so a metre of that is coming my way.

  7. The curtains might make good quilt backs unless they are a heavier weight of goods? The red Morris-ish [Liberty?] print is gorgeous.

  8. "Bother that cat", as Judith Kerr said, many times! I love "The Strawberry Thief", and I've got a shirt, and a duvet cover or of the design. And because it's Liberty, the shirt has got to be 15 years old and is still as good as new. No wear marks, and a delight to wear. I hope you find an appreciative buyer for the Laura Ashley curtains. L.A. was all the are here in New Zealand in the late 70's and we had pretty wallpaper in the guest room of our first home together. Happy memories. I hope that by the time you read this, you're feeling better. Were you not advised to take Panadol before you had your jab? I'm sure I heard that advice over here. Because it's a live vaccine, I'm not allowed it - I'm immune suppressed. They've just released a new vaccine, but I haven't checked with my Immunologist whether I am allowed it. And I don't so much as breathe without his say-so!! Take care of yourself. You've been through such a lot recently, it's hardly surprising your body is rebelling!

    1. Thank you for this info. I am immune suppressed too and tho no one has yet suggested the shingles vaxx, it is good that I know that it is not acceptable.

  9. That's a thought, but I could do with selling them really as need some cash coming in - if only to pay for more fabric to finish that quilt! and pay for me to go to the Malvern Quilt Festival. The duvet on the bed is a Morris fabric - Strawberry Thief. Love it.

    1. It's so lovely. ///I wish I could send you fabrics from my stash, or have you come rummage thru my supply. There's enough here to make 20 quilts each. Think you should have bought the Moda print! You deserve a treat. I tend to be self indulgent w fabric and art supplies---I blame it on poor parenting, those were the only treats we were allowed except at bday and Christmas. Very frugal parents in regard to the kids.
