A Quick Update and my stand

It was hectic yesterday and I was selling from the moment they let people in.  It was good to see SO many people but by gum, just as well I have a Long Distance Bladder as I had to wait about 5 hrs (until Tam, Jon, Rosie and friends arrived) to get to the loo.  Then Jon and S told us girls to go and have a wander around whilst they manned the stand.  They sold a couple of chunks whilst we were away, and I will be able to restore the depradations from my April spendings to some degree.  S's American wife K was looking amazing in a 1950s dress, complete with net petticoats and tiny post-baby waistline from all the breast-feeding (her baby D has a healthy appetite!)  I wish I'd taken a photo as she looked stunning.  Tam and I more practically dressed :)  Tam always has such a good eye for clothes though and when she goes to work or out on the town, looks amazing.  Gabby's more like me - the first thing that comes to hand for day to day, though we can polish up when we have to.

My stand - 8 tables this time!  Pile it high!  Below are the special Oriental pieces I found last Autumn.  Not an iota of interest though.  The Japanese bronze bowl on the left is one Keith and I found several years ago and I finally researched and found it was quite desirable.  Nearly sold it yesterday . . .

The WW1 recipe book (left) sold, and the lovely blue bowl to the side of the plaster maquette(horse).  The round studio pot based on a Dorset cider owl (centre, bottom shelf) is by Laurel Keeley and one of her early pieces, and again quite desirable.  I'll be glad when that pre-Covid purchased Bristol Nailsea modern decanter finally sells.  It is very much an Old Friend.  I keep dropping the price.

Above, this is a hard part of the stand to display without it looking cluttered.  Anyway the hames (left) from my kitchen, and the donkey hames middle, sold, as did the bowl at the back and the largest wooden spoon, and one of the Turkish Dough Board (right).

Terrier pic on stand and two bowls to the left gone to new homes.  They were Old Friends too.

A better less-crowded display, which is what I would like to do everywhere - if I had 20 tables!!

The lesser stuff . . .

So, even after a shorter working day, I feel shattered this morning.  Rosie ended up having a long sleep after leaving the showground, so was awake till 10 p.m. and I found it hard to sleep when I woke up around 1 a.m. and came down.  Hey ho.  I have Tam and Rosie helping me today, which will be great at packing up time.

I hope everyone is having a nice Bank Holiday weekend. Much colder here this morning, as predicted, and overcast.

  1. Better to be coming home lighter in goods and heavier in the wallet! The heating came on this morning, this is crazy weather. Tesco due shortly, with apparently many short dated goods, but given the apparently empty shelves in all the supermarkets in town I shall have to be prudent in what I return! Enjoy the rest of the weekend and Bank Holiday.

    1. Yes, cooler at nights. This house often feels cool, even on a hot summer day, and despite facing South! Oh dear to the short-dated goods and crazy that supermarket shelves are empty. It's not as though the shops are shut today.

  2. You have some lovely items. I would love to wander around the fair. I don't know how you get the energy to set up your tables!

    1. I need to eat more protein as I think there is some upper body strength needing to be regained - though tell the truth, Keith was slim but super strong and always did the lifting. Had a lovely super-sausage from the stand at the Fair yesterday - you had a choice of Gloucester Old Spot, Lincolnshire, Welsh Dragon, plain etc. in a bun with lots of onions. That kept us going until we finally ate at 7.30ish! A takeaway again, this time Chicken shish kebab with the most amazing fresh salad and garlic dressing and Tam had their made on the spot pizza, which looked really nice too.

    1. Not everyone sold well. One of my friends was chatting to me for ages and said he reckoned I was the only stall selling anything (so presume his wife and he not having such a good day).
