The cat alarm woke me at 6 a.m. this morning, so got up as I wanted to get the runner beans planted before I went out at 9 a.m. The hardest part was getting the FYM out of the plastic sacks. Cutting across the top was harder work than doing it along the side. Anyway, two raised beds topped up, both with canes in and one with runner beans (Scarlet Emperor, as always).
I was away at 9.05 and went to Carmarthen, and got some fruit from Chris Thomas's - strawberries £1, two punnets raspberries for £1, Rhubarb (for Rhubarb and Custard Cake), and some apples. Then on to B&Q where my plans to buy a new strimmer somewhat hampered by the fact that they'd had a power cut and none of the tills were working, so it was cash only. I had about £60 on me but there wasn't much between the cheapest at £35 or the next up at £80. I got the cheapest and it will have to do. It's a battery operated one. I need it to do the grass at Tam's too, as they don't have one.
Then on to see my lovely friend Pam - I took them some Blueberry Muffins that I made yesterday afternoon. We had a good natter, and then I went on to my class, had lots more nattering - they are such a lovely group - and got lots of cutting out done, and sewed one block at the end. Good points on it and I can get some more done this week with so many triangles prepared.
It was lovely driving through the beautiful countryside, with the May and Mountain Ash blossom just starting, all the trees (bar the tardiest Ashes) with leaves now, masses of Dandelions, Red Campion, Bluebells (some going over), and Cow Parsley.
Right, time to unwind now.
LOL I had to look up FYM, which urban dictionary says means "f*@k your mother"--other elsewhere choices were farmyard manure which sounds more likely.
ReplyDeleteYour doings sounds delightfully springtime-y. It's lovely to read about you having busy fun social outings. Your friend's quilt is beautiful. Yours will be too.

Oh goodness, I didn't know the initials had an alter ego! That made me giggle!! It's like the time I told the kids I'd gone out to get some gimp, me meaning braid for upholstery and not the, ahem, more naughty stuff!!! They fell about.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely beautiful here right now, and so good to be going out. I have decided to go to Hay Market tomorrow and get myself a Special Plant for the garden.
My friend's quilt turned out beautifully. My blocks are looking pleasing too.
Now I have to look up ''gimp''. I ll look forward to your Hay Market post.
DeleteThat is a beautiful quilt. I love the colors of it! It sounds like a relaxing day. I got a nice battery powered strimmer for my birthday...last year, I think. I really love it. The gas ones always are a chore to start!
ReplyDeleteWow, that quilt is absolutely lovely. Your friend did a wonderful job on it.
ReplyDeleteGimp here is just some plastic lacing used by children to make bracelets or key chains. There is a naughty connotation to that word????
God bless.
You have so much energy! I am exhausted just reading it. Glad you had a good day though. x
ReplyDeleteThe quilt colours are gorgeous! Your raspberries and strawberries seem like a bargain when I converted the prices into Aussie dollars, we are coming to the end of autumn and my apple trees and next doors silver birch just starting to loose leaves. Not much autumn colour here it’s not long or cold enough and most native trees are evergreen. If you drive a couple of hours inland in the hills it is more spectacular! JennyP
