Thank God for my wonderful family . . .

A poor photo of lots of Winstanley cats.  I sold my one yesterday to a lovely customer.

. . .I truly could not have managed without them - or Tam and Jon's lovely friends - who made it a stress-free fair, and although I am very tired, it was very successful.  I got the feeling that people were thinking Sod It and treating themselves!  Fine by me :)  So Gabby and Tamzin, take a bow.  I am SO grateful.  Tam had a roaring UTI today but loaded and unloaded ALL the boxes into and out of the car for me, bless her.  Keith always used to do that and my upper body strength is pitiful these days.

I am hoping that I have turned a corner with confidence and what have you.  Several friends over this weekend said I was looking better and seeming more my old self again.  For once, I wasn't particularly worried about doing the Fair.  I wasn't worried about taking card payments - now I can do it on my phone it is simple and it makes a difference to having or losing a sale in this day and age.  Several items from Keith's militaria found new homes, which is a relief as I didn't want to lose money on them putting them through auction.  I felt he was with me and perhaps sending folk to my stall.  Two friends turned up who hadn't heard about Keith's death, so that was hard to share, but they stayed ages to talk and see I was OK, and it was SO good to see them again.

Rumour has it that the new company who have taken over the Fair, are going to charge more money for half the space in future, so that should soon kill the Fair stone dead.  We will see - and I blardy hope not, that is such a stupid idea.

Right, being a wino now and having a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc.  Reckon I deserve it.  Tam's on water and painkillers.

  1. I am so pleased that the fair went well for you. Looking round the Flea Market last week at Lincoln, I thought of you and your stall. It is such a lot of work to set up and take it down. Thank goodness you had some help. Now you have proved that you can do it, next time it will be easier.

  2. It's a challenge on your own, as there is so much lifting and carrying. More of the same today, to stow all the boxes away again! I need to do a few car boot sales to get rid of the pre-Covid stuff I have in the stables. It's just such a long Fair and takes up a week, with the preparation beforehand, the setting up on the Friday, two days on my stand, then taking it down and on the Monday, stowing away. Thank heavens for family.

  3. Hooray for a good fair, lot's sold and plenty of help.
Hope the price of a stand doesn't go to something silly - even car boot pitches here have all gone up this year, at the moment it hasn't put people off.

    1. I haven't done a car boot sale for about 3 years now, when Keith and I did a couple at Madley near Hereford. I think the pitches there are about £8. I will find out soon.

  4. I'm so glad it was a good fair for you, it makes all the difference to have a good couple of days doesn't it. Although I would never want to go back to that life, it was such a relief to sell all my stuff at rock bottom prices on my last ever fair. I made a lot of dealers very happy, and then did a car boot sale with the leftovers.

    1. Oooh the dealer in me would hate to virtually give stuff away. I am hard-wired to at least get my money back! It's good to have a bit more room in the Library now as two big bowls which had lived on the table, sold over the weekend.

    2. I think that was when I knew I would never again deal in antiques or even knick-knacks. I was happy to see the back of stuff. It was a complete personality change, as it was when I got rid of all my crafting supplies a few years later.

  5. I am glad to read that the fair went so well, thanks to friends and a wonderful family. You had some good sales and managed to get some items gone.

    God bless.

    1. It was a very positive weekend, but I would truly have struggled to do it totally on my own with that amount of boxes.

  6. I am so glad you had a good successful Fair. And that you feel stronger and more yourself. You do challenge yourself, and this was your reward. Hope Tam feels better!
Your booth and other booths look so interesting, I do love seeing everything. Thanks so much.
And as always, your wonderful family! They are exceptional, so good to you, so helpful. How blessed you are, be proud.

PS What about listing Keith's militaria on eBay as buy it now/ best offer ? That way you'd find collectors all over the UK and would not lose money on an auction setting? Tho eBay does take a chunk from your sales.

    1. I'm not one for giving up easily. I have to keep pushing myself. Glad you liked looking round the Fair through my camera lens. I am indeed very blessed with my family. I put my life on hold when they were growing up, and put them first, and now that is being returned.

Some things I could list on Fleabay, but not the knives, and not the shall we just say "German" military daggers . . .

  7. It looked a lovely display and your family helped magnificently. What would we do without family?
